Building History
The church was designed in 1850 (by the same designer of St. Mary's Cathedral nearby) and built by the local parishes of the Presbyterian church. Interestingly at that time it had unobstructed views all the way to Woolloomooloo and Sydney Harbour! It operated as the Presbyterian church for 150 years (the minister lived next door on Palmer St) before being bought by a private investor. The first tenant Jodhi Packer brought the already well known building increased exposure since it became the headquarters for her much publicised 'Tigerlily' swimwear label. Christian City Church - God in the City then took over tenancy from 2001 and has been using it ever since. In this time the building has undergone a large renovation and facelift, highlighting again its beautiful sandstone walls, its tall windows, oak floorboards and oak rafters.
