About God in the City
Christian City Church, God in the City is a young and vibrant church located in the heart of Darlinghurst. When God in the City began its services 6 years ago, Pastor Tim and Kirrily Lowe, noticed many members were young artists and designers. With a vision to connect and see their lives flourish, the Propeller art exhibition was born. It became a space for their gifts to be nurtured and the dreams propelled. Propeller has now grown to be one of Sydney's most popular and innovative exhibitions.
What is Propeller?
Propeller is a volunteer, community based initiative of Christian City Church "God In The City". The vision of propeller is to connect and propel emerging creative talent. Propeller provides a place of expression, inspiration and connection for artists and helps develop the unique talent and creativity within our church and the local community.
Each year God in the City presents the Art and Design Award, Fashion Show and Short Film Award, giving Sydney's emerging artists the opportunity to display their work to the public and industry professionals at a grass roots level. Propeller Fashion Show
In 2003, Christian City Church, God in the City launched its first Propeller fashion show described by the Sydney Telegraph as "a runway extravaganza for up and coming young designers" Each year the show aims to celebrate artistic diversity by encouraging collaboration across all fields of design and craftsmanship, music, dance and multi media. It provides opportunity for creative people to unleash their talent and work together in an environment otherwise unavailable to them.
The Propeller team along with pastors Tim and Kirrily, long to inspire and encourage emerging artists and designers. Propeller Fashion has now become the launching pad for many budding designers, who have gone on to show their collection in the Source at Mercedes Fashion Week and selling their designs in some of Sydney's popular fashion boutiques. Propeller celebrates fashion as art and unlike most fashion shows allows designers to unleash their creativity without having to conform to the commercial boundaries of the fashion industry. Each year entrants come from all Sydney's major design colleges as well as from fledgling designers who may have no formal training other than a "passion for fashion". Propeller will showcase designs from prêt-a-porter street wear to the high end of fashion haute couture, including avant-garde and costume design. All are welcome to enter! Final selection for the show will be made by the Propeller team and a panel of industry experts will judge the finalists on closing night. |
